Proverbs 4:13 says Take hold of instruction, do not let go. Guard her, for she is your life.
Proverbs 14:23 says In all labour [work] there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury [poverty, deficiency, lack].
Deuteronomy 24:14 says Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:
2 Thessalonians 3:10 says For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
James 5:4 says Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth [hosts, military might].
Matthew 6:24, 33-34 says:
(Matthew 6:24) No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
(Matthew 6:33) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
(Matthew 6:34) Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Matthew 6:25-32 details the principle Jesus refers to by the phrase “and all these things shall be added unto you”. Philippians 4:19 also refers to that principle.
Exodus 20:8-11 concerning the Sabbath also speaks to having faith that God will provide when we take a day off to focus on our spiritual life and that of our household which will certainly lead to a better relationship between husband and wife and parents and children as well as support our physical health, mental health, and emotional health. So even in seeking adequate income still have faith to take a day of rest off on a regular basis in the spirit of the Sabbath law (Romans 7:6; 2 Cor 3:6). As Jesus says the Sabbath was made for man (Mark 2:27); by that he means it is good for man.
Below are links to reports generated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) website that provides information about minimum needed income based on expected expenses for the Texarkana area. The below reports show data for 1 Adult and 2 Adults (1 & 2 Working). Additional data is accessible through the MIT tool. Link to the MIT website tool is provided later in this document.
One should be mindful that people needs and circumstances vary so the numbers are estimates of the average person’s income/expense needs.
Though one may not be employed at a rate that meets or exceeds the recommended minimum salary rate, one should wisely plan to move to a position that does meet or exceed the recommended minimum salary rate. One should always be aware of the impact inflation has on one’s ability to meet financial needs.
The MIT tool does not generate data for Texarkana Arkansas specifically but does for Texarkana Texas; however, the Texarkana Arkansas figures should approximate Texarkana Texas. The MIT tool does generate data for Miller County as well as Bowie County.
Link to a US Census Quick Facts data for Texarkana USA are also provided. With respect to living wage data one should note the Income & Poverty section which lists the median income per household and per capita income. Median is the middle income point which means half the households have income less than and half have income more than the given amount. Per capita income basically means the average per person income.
This information is provided to help one ascertain what ones fair share income/expense ratio should be relative to others in the community to meet his/her living wage needs. Of course, one’s income is largely a function of the type on job one has and the location in which one lives. The type of job or employment one has is largely though not totally a function of the level of one’s education and work experience.
The socio-economic status of a family also seems to have a major impact on educational achievement though there are exceptions of course. The Texarkana Arkansas School District Report Card Analysis available here indicates the negative impact of socio-economic factors on academic performance at K-12 levels.
Life is largely about how we respond to life’s challenges.
In a world where one’s race, ethnicity, and/or gender can be a factor in one’s overall quality of non-spiritual life, it is important one learns how to best leverage both the opportunities and resources available so that one navigates society systems and institutions in a manner that minimizes the effect of racism, ethnicism, and sexism. One can choose to only complain about such things pointing fingers at others or one can choose to even more so rise and spiritually and naturally stand against such things so as to not allow them to hold one back/down.
