These two books are not included in the canon of scriptures except in the Ethiopian church. Many if not most biblical scholars do not consider the two book as meeting the standard for authentication to truly be the Word of God.

Though there is uncertainty about the entirety of the Books of Jubilees and the Book of Enoch, it is possible that the 364-day calendar may still be authentic.

Jubilees calendar uses sun only hence called a solar calendar. Enoch using sun, moon, and starts hence called a lunar-solar calendar. Genesis 1:14 seems to use sun, moon, and stars. Another key verse is Psalms 104:119.

As it regularly discounts 1-2 days per year, the Enoch and Jubilees 364-day calendar may be good for feasts and sabbaths but not for recording the passage of time.

I do not recommend the fixed 364 days year calendar system. Given the way the sun and moon work to define days, nights, months, and years, the 364 days a year calendar system seems illogical to me. Yet, although not appropriate for a general calendar purposes, it may be useful for sabbath and feast days only.

So I only consider here their presentation concerning the 364 day calendar. This calendar seems to be a solar calendar in contrast to being a lunar calendar. For Jubilees chapter 2 verse 9 says:

“And God appointed the sun to be a great sign on the earth for days and for Sabbaths and for months and for feasts and for years and for Shabbats of years and for jubilees and for all seasons of the years.”

Leviticus 25:8-9 describe a jubilee.

Enoch and Book of Jubilees present a 364-day calendar where the number of days in a year is fixed at 364 rather than 365, or 366 in a leap year. I will refer to them together herein as the 364-day calendar. I will refer to the Gregorian 365/366-day calendar as a general purpose calendar.

Enoch is believed to have been written before the Book of Jubilees.

The 364-day calendars can work as weekly sabbath and feast calendars but not as general purpose calendars. The reason is as designed they only account for 364 of the 365 days of the solar (sun cycle). In reality, community activities and businesses cannot just act like that 365th day of the solar cycle does not exist. Therefore, the 364-day calendar may be useful for use along with the general purpose Gregorian calendar but not a replacement for it and vice versa.

Of course, that assumes the 364 -ay calendar was given by God to be followed instead of the New Moon based calendar, the latter of which some hold to be the basis for the calendar system God established.

Before going on let me say that some have said that perhaps before the flood or before some other catastrophic event that may have changed the earth rotation and its relationship to the sun and moon, there were actually 364 days instead of 365 days in a solar cycle. That adds to the mystery of what truly is God’s calendar if there is only one method he established.

These 364-day calendars are not a solar cycle calendar nor a lunar cycle nor a luni-solar calendar as traditionally or conventionally defined.

Solstices and equinoxes are important terms in dealing with calendars.

Equinox means there is nearly equal amounts of daylight and darkness. There are two equinoxes each year, the spring equinox occurring around March 20–21 and the winter one

In this article my focus is on the spring equinox.

Under the conventional calendar the first day of spring is the spring equinox.

In my research on the 364-day calendars of Enoch and Book or Jubilees I came across a few YouTube videos that offered clarity to them to supplement my cursory reading of the two books regarding the calendars.

One video aligned with my intuitive observations concerning the conflict between a 364-day calendar and the well- known 365-day year. It is intuitively obvious that the actual sun/moon interaction cycles cannot PHYSICALLY be both 364 days and 365 days. It is impossible to stuff 365 days into 364 days.

The YouTube video for is by an individual named Nick Vanderlaan. The video is entitled “CLARITY to Enoch Calendar: 364 Days vs. 365 Days (Part 1)”. He has a Part 2 but I have to date found only Part 1 of use to me.

I do not align myself with everything Vanderlaan says, especially the part about Job.

My interest is only in his technical explanation of the 364-day calendar not the other stuff that I consider speculative analysis.

Vanderlaan says the 364 Day Year does not equal the 365 Day Solar Cycle. He also says the creation week is different from the calendar week. He says the creation week started on day one for seven days but the calendar week begins on day four when the sun and moon were created and continues for seven days. He says the first day of the year is always on day 4 of the creation week which is in our nomenclature Wednesday. He says the end of the 364-day year is always day 3 which is Tuesday. However, he says the spring equinox is not counted in the 364-day calendar. This means for the calendar day 3 (Tuesday) is always the day before the spring equinox day and day 4 (Wednesday) is always the day after the spring equinox day. This is why I say the 364-day calendar can possibly be used for sabbath and feast purposes but not as a general purpose calendar.

Vanderlaan discusses two implementations of the 364-day calendar.

The first is the implementation that counts the spring equinox as part of the 364-day cycle from year to year. But he says this results in an error because the spring equinox is part of the 365 day solar cycle but not “God’s 364 day calendar“. He says the result is a two-day drift moving out of the spring season in some years and a one day drift in other years.

This drift is precisely what I intuitively observed when I ran the computation on the 364-Day calendar. in my earlier analysis of a discussion on the 364-day calendar by Nazarene Hebrew Institute of Technology That computation follows:

So starting with First Spring New Moon for 2022 calculating as one day after NASA New Moon (April 1) which is really a non-visible moon date with first viewable moon crescent usually one day after that given date.

So I start with April 2, 2022 as the Hebrew New Year for 2022

To view NASA Moon Phases for 2022 go to NASA 2022 Moon Phases. To see moon phases for a different year, just change the year.

To generate below date calculation sequence of dates I went to Time and Date website and used the Add days to date function, checking the repeat box and entering the number of days of 364.

Let’s use the spring equinox for 2022.

From Sunday, March 20, 2022
Added 364 days (repeated 20 times)

Result 2: Sunday, March 17, 2024
Result 3: Sunday, March 16, 2025
Result 4: Sunday, March 15, 2026
Result 5: Sunday, March 14, 2027
Result 6: Sunday, March 12, 2028
Result 7: Sunday, March 11, 2029
Result 8: Sunday, March 10, 2030
Result 9: Sunday, March 9, 2031
Result 10: Sunday, March 7, 2032
Result 11: Sunday, March 6, 2033
Result 12: Sunday, March 5, 2034
Result 13: Sunday, March 4, 2035
Result 14: Sunday, March 2, 2036
Result 15: Sunday, March 1, 2037
Result 16: Sunday, February 28, 2038
Result 17: Sunday, February 27, 2039
Result 18: Sunday, February 26, 2040
Result 19: Sunday, February 24, 2041
Result 20: Sunday, February 23, 2042

Now let’s use the first New Moon date for the spring of 2022.

From Saturday, April 2, 2022
Added 364 days (repeated 20 times)

Enter starting date of April 2, 2022, enter 364 into the days to add box, check the repeat box and enter 20 and hit calculate. Two day backup will occur for leap years. If you start on a new moon, it will take longer to backup.

As my computation shows as one moves from year to year there will be a drift in the 364-day calculation as one is trying to stuff 365 days into 364 days which is impossible.

Vanderlaan provides the technical reason for the drift. He says for the 364-day calendar to be continuously correct one should not count the spring equinox day as part of the 364-day calendar. In other words, he essentially says God designed that day to separate the years, not be a part of the years. He says that is what Enoch 72:32 says. So then the effect is that babies are born but birthdate not recorded and people deposit money in banks but date is not recorded and so on since that date effectively does not exist. That shows how the 364-day calendar is not workable except possibly for feast keeping purposes.

Vanderlaan further says the following:

The last day of each year is the 31st day of the twelfth month. This is always on day 3 of God’s days of the week which is named Tuesday. This day is always the day before the spring equinox.

The spring equinox is not a countable day for either the date or the day of the week.

The day after the spring equinox is the 1st day of the 1st month and is day 4 of God’s days of the week which is named Wednesday

Others say the first day is the day of the spring equinox and therefore counts that day. This means the day before the spring equinox is day 3, the day of the spring equinox is day 4 and the day after the spring equinox is day 5. So we can see the variation in the implementations and how both can’t be right.

I am not saying that Vanderlaan technical observation concerning the 365th day of the solar cycle not been counted as part of the 364-day year cycle is technically right or wrong. I am not saying his technique makes the 364-day calendar more workable. One issue is the spring equinox seems to move along the days of the week of the creation week in one or two step increments. Two steps occur in leap years given the 366th day in February. For example, from 2018 to 2025, Vanderlaan has the first day of the first month of each year as March 21. The creation day of the week for March 21 of each of those years is given below. Note March 21 will always be on day 4 of the calendar week day of the week regardless of the creation week day of the week. For he says for the New Year always occurs on day 4 in alignment with day 4 of creation. Note this is all for the 364-day calendar purposes not for the general purpose calendar. Bottom line is one has to assume the 364-day calendar is a logical calendar for sabbaths and feast days, not a physical calendar the aligns with the creation calendar.

2018, Wednesday, day 4

2019, Thursday, day 5

2020, Saturday (Two steps due to leap year), day 7

2021, Sunday, day 1

2022, Monday, day 2

2023, Tuesday, day 3

2024, Thursday (two steps due to leap year), day 4

It will not come back around to land on Wednesday until 2029, some 11 years later.

The result of this spring equinox shift is that under the 364-day calendar the dates of the year will be the same and the days of the calendar week will be the same for all sabbaths and feasts. However, the days of the week will not align with creation days of the week since day 1 of creation. Also, the 364-day calendar by definition does not claim to track days since creation since it does not count the 365th day.

Vanderlaan website is at Enoch Calendar | Qumran Calendar

Vanderlaan calendar for 2024 follows:

Now consider Leland Jones 2024 first month of year calendar below.
