To Fear or Not Fear God?

Blessed be his glorious name of the Lord our Creator God for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen. (Psalm 72:19)

To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved [Jesus Christ]. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace (Ephesians 1:6-7)

A preacher quoted the following to me one day:

Rom 2:4: Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Certainly that is the Word of Truth.

But then he misapplied that truth and said to me: ” God does not use the fear of hell to motivate men to repent, it is His own goodness that leads men to repentance”.

Well I guess Jesus was just making useless small talk when he says:

Mat 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy

***both soul and body in hell***.

Preachers making ineffective loud entertaining unbalanced sermons/speeches in “Sunday Worship Service” to folks with itching ears is definitely not the type of worship God seeks (John 4:23-24; 2 Tim 4:1-5).

Let us not fear God so as to try and run from him for in the final analysis none can escape him.

So then let us love AND fear him so as to run to him, including heeding Jesus warning.

Let us all have godly confidence in our walk with God through Christ by attending to the WHOLE counsel of God.

My prayer and hope is that preacher has come to realize his doctrine as stated to me is only part of what God wants us to understand and therefore repented of both living and preaching that incomplete doctrine he relayed to me.

Much Godly Love, Peace, and Blessings
